walked home
with me to supper. Afterward we sat by the fire in the dining room and
talked and read Kipling &c. Later I studied the chart that
Alice sent of our
Vanderheyden
and Schermerhorn
Ancestry since 1622 - and when Jacob Janse S. came from
Holland. It is very
interesting. Copied it
Mar. 1 Fri.
Busy a.m. JW. went to Albany (with
the Mrs -es-) this p.m. Lunched at
Sibley's with Papa and then went to Mrs.
Weston's to try on shirt waist.
Papa read aloud tonight and we
sewed. It got warm & rained hard in the evening.
Mar 2. Sat.
Warmer and horrid and windy -
Regular March. Rode nine times - lots of carfare these bad weather
days. Shopped tonight and stopped at Huyler's for
soda. The place (new) is very pretty but the soda might be lots
better. Read & wrote tonight.
Mar 3. Sun.
Awfully tired. Had breakfast in
bed! & stayed up stairs till 1 pm! & so. Read and loafed most
of the day. Copied a lot of genealogical stuff for
Alice to send young Edw.
Schermerhorn - who got up the
Schermerhorn &
Vanderheyden
trees. Getting rather interested in Ancestry.
Mar 4-5-6. Mon. Tues. Wed
Busy days - & read evenings & beat Mother
badly at flinch
&c. The West Side Dept. store
(Duffy - McInnerney) opened Monday with great crowd. I walked through - & it was
time - Reading "Port of Missing Men" & "The
Seeker".
