Read "The Iron Way" - a story of the old cross- continent railroad was - tonight - very good. Apr. 9. Tues. Weather still beastly - JWC. went to N.Y. Lunched at Sibley's with Father & Mother. Henry has such a cough Char didn't want to leave him so Claude gave me their tickets to "Mrs. Warren's Profession" (Mary Shaw &c) which I went up to Cro'nest for. Took Lura and sat "down by the band" & we did enjoy the acting hugely. There is no excuse for the play, however. The leading villain was a picture of "H.P.B." - the tobacco man. JW's mother had a serious operation at the City hospital. Apr. 10 Wed Snowstorm! Everything covered this a.m. Lunched with Lura at Seel's - & did a few errands. Saw Nellie Mac. Tonight went to see Francis Wilson in "The Mountain Climber". Sat with Hutchison & Dickens. The Macs & Lois Leader in front. It was roaringly funny. Apr 11. Thu. Nice sun & snow going (but still cold) Claude had a nice time with Francesca last night. Took him to the club &c. Little Henry much better & his Grandmother Wilkinson came to see him today for the first time. Mother & Father called there tonight, J.G. gave me tickets to the Kneizel Quartette, so I went with Edith. It was exquisite, but I was very tired before it was over (at 10:15!) Miss Dickens & Myra Crawley went too. At 4, I went & had my last "bridge" put in & I hope saw the last of Doctor S. for sometime. My mouth feels "full" - but "me achable
". Shopped with Edithlater.
