1905 6/17
Went up to the Graham Bldg. and saw the infringing Chute - It looked much better (front view) than I expected but had a letter stuck in it, over the box. The back was very crude & angles unpainted. Took the "L" to Macy's roof tea room but found it rather crowded. Went to the "Rubberneck Wagon" as Claude calls it - sight seeing Auto - at 34th St. and then down to the Flatiron
& changed and they took a two-hour trip out 5th ave - thro' the park, down Riverside Drive, & Broadway - saw all the big "houses of millionaires - Carnegie, (with trees) Phipps - Schwab (not quite done - on Riverside Drive).
Clark. &c. &c. It was really very nice except Harlem was aw- fully hot. The Times Bldg
is very striking & the Journal will be. Went back to the hotel and to the 34th St. Station & got the 5:30 train to Richmond Hill, but it was late. Found Miss Garfield, Miss Dolan, and her cousin, Kitty Thornton, a dancer in the "Ben Hur Co" & and very interesting. Knows Omir Johnson - "who's going to marry a rich Rochester Woman, so his valet says" and so on. Adores Annie Irish & Dodson from afar &c. Says Omir got $350 per week with them. She likes Wm (2) Farnum (Dunstan's brother) even better as Ben Hur. Has been in Vaudeville ("Pansies" "Jersey Alies" &c.) and in Rochester many times &c. &c. (all this I learned by degrees during the week following.)
