July 9. Sun. Warm and muggy. Busy all morning, writing &c. In the p.m. dressed up in white, sat on the piazza & read Collier's & later Mother, Father & I went up to Cro'nest & drank iced tea with Claude, Char, Fred. Later Mother & I took the car to the orphan asylum and had a nice long visit with Miss Dine- hart, who told us all her troubles &c. Showed us the cottages (I hadn't seen the "Lella') &c. then we walked down to Davis's and spent a few minutes on the piazza, and took the car home. July 10-13 Tues-Thu. These days all more or less alike - hot, muggy and thunder - showery. Terribly busy at the office in the day time & at home at night, Got the music box fixed up fine. Read new & old letters, Corresponded with Miss. G. and relaxed very little, & Mother less. The red room looks fine. July 14 Fri. A trifle cooler. Saw the National Co. (with Laura) in "Trilby" - Fred'k Lewis made a really fine Little Billee - tho' a trifle too broad shouldered and Jessie a sweet Trilby the last two acts - but not the first two. July 15. Sat. Cooler today and a really lovely p.m. But I worked hard till 5 o'clock (Making apparently no impression on the blanks) Phillips is here. Showed me Bless's picture she's 13 and very pretty. At 5, I rode out East Ave saw the Cory & Sloan houses
and went over to Davis's to read Helen's "Gagoot" (she wrote me yesterday). Chat & Myrtle
