7/7/05 "Trooper Billie"
7/4/05
with Chattie, reading & talking, went over to Mt. Hor lawn & heard a band concert (sitting on the grass with Chattie) I didn't stay for other fireworks, but came home & read &c. July 5. Wed. Awfully hot, and very busy. Edith came up tonight (to the office) and as it looked like rain, I didn't take my wheel, but walked down with her - Tried to get her to come to supper, but she wouldn't. July 6. Thurs. Still hot and horrid and showry. Mary came up tonight (rather late) and spent the rest of the evening. We sat outside in spite of the mosquitoes - My pictures pleased her (more than they did me!) July 7. Fri. Not much cooler but showers last night made it some better! We all went to the National tonight to see Frederic Pauldings' new war play. Marie, Lura, Laura, Nellie, Mary, Mr. B, Matie Hawley & Ray
 arrived! It was very good - horses & "sojers" July 8 Sat. Some better but still hot in the office. Our things from Uncle's came yesterday and Mother has worked till she's about done up - Papa too was used up tonight. I spent my half-holiday helping a little, but Mother won't "go slow" and it is a temptation to tackle everything at once. Char came in to invite us up tomorrow p.m. to see Fred and later I took a bath, and tonight wrote, visited with Amelie &c.&c. Enjoy the new library table.
