and blindness
is the most dreadful thing - almost that people have come to them.
That is the hardest to bear bravely. We hustled home to dinner (Nan had ready) and ate quickly - starting
off at once with "Janet"
Alice & Miss Sade
Knight in the back seat and Nan & I in front. We took the "old" road to
Waterford - the first part of which (over by
"Pudding Lane") I'd been on before. It was beautiful, but
had some big hills - The biggest - and most
beautiful we came down (The picture is taken halfway down) Then we
crossed Crooked River I've heard so much about and climbed
more before we got down toward Pennesseewassee Lake
(beautiful) and finally to Norway, the metropolis - saw a real street car!
I treated to ice cream & we marketed and shopped (film, peppers,
tin oven, comforter &c. &c. !!) and started back soon after 4:30.
Came back by the "new road" - wider & not so hilly but sandier. It
too was beautiful - but not quite up to Waterford
Standard. "Miss Sade" was entertaining and
we passed "? Neighborhood " & she told stories & treated to
gumdrops & chocolates. Went thro' East Waterford
and the old stage changing place. Reached home rather late - (around
seven) and flew to get supper as there was a
"dance" at
