plenty of room. It was rather warm in the middle of the afternoon. Lunched at Syracuse & got a glass of milk. Read "Sanna" (Nantucket story) Was a little late at Saugerties, arriving about seven to find Harriete
waiting for me - She has lost 20 pounds (net) and looks tall and well - Is as entertaining as ever and talked "Edith" & "Con". "&c", all the way home (same lovely drive) Found all the dear family home, cousin Caroline looking much better than last fall, and Aunt Mio worse. The "Her- berts" just the same. After supper we all spent the evening on the piazza - watching the river, the trained and the boats. The Onteora (N.Y. boat stopping at Malden) arrive &c. &c. Had a very nice visit - Herb & Anna told about their Vermont experiences and Mary Strong's witticisms. (Fishing up suspenders & baiting for the "man", because she got an egg beater at Cedar Island, &c.) Anna also showed me Elizabeth Flack's Kodaks of the trip - some very pretty ones of Barbara and little "Maria" (?) also talked "California" with Harriette
till about 11. Aug 19. Sun. Woke up early - lovely morning - and had breakfast at quarter of seven with Cousin Carrie the only decently clothed member of the family and Harriette
in a blue Kimono and her hair in a braid. The family came down to see me off. Anna in pink Kimono and her stocking down. Barbara with her
