Trudy and I went out to South Park. Listened to the music, had
ginger ale, and went over to the links where some professionals
(Nichols & ) were playing a match and sat under a tree
and watched them and the crowd following them. We came down
So. Ave. way & stopped at the Lyceum for tickets and went tonight to
see the Stewart Co's last performance - "Faust"
which was very good. Miss Fassett
was a charming Margareta. Theo & Meta
were there & at the end Stewart made a speech & the
chorus came on (in street clothes) to be thanked &c. &c. &c.
July 29. Sun.
Cloudy, sprinkly & a little sultry this p.m. All but I went to
church. Little Amelie
came over
& "assisted" me at dishwashing. Then I read the morning papers.
Looked at Herbert Caring's pictures,
wrote a lot &c. A hard rain shower just before dinner & then
it gradually grew a little cooler & breezier.
Trudy is reading "The Divine
Fire". Papa
went over to
Davis' this p.m. Char
& Claude are expected tonight. Got a postal
from Kath Wilkinson - from
Rome.
July 30 Mon.
Rather tired today. Claude & Char got back last night. We got a telegram saying the
house at Chestnut Hill was burned
up this a.m. early! They think it was lightning. Auntie discovered it (we learned later) about 3 am. When the woodshed was all a
blaze & soon after a thunderstorm. It was burned to
