That & the
lot are right on top of the highest hill of all (&
Troyis high & I guess on about seven hills - like
Rome!) We had a nice evening - I saw Frank's
charming photographs of old houses &c. (in
New England & the Hudson Valley - ones
among them also many other beauties - He promised me some. We plan to
drive out to the old house tomorrow.
Sept. 3 Mon.Labor day, & pouring rain! Who
ever heard of such a thing!! The result was I had a fine nice long visit with
Eo, after breakfast, on the dining
room window seat- watching the trees, & fields & the rain.
About 11 it suddenly stopped & there was a suggestion of blue
& Eo announced it wd. clear off &
hustled up dinner & sure enough, by 12 the sun was shining
brightly! I packed my bag & put on my raincoat & we started in
12:30 - walked over to the stable & got in - all ready for the train -
just a run about & Eva & I
went out the "Brunswick Road" to the lane & turned up
to the old old house - tied the horse & found Maria
Howes in. She was very glad to see me and took us in
the old End room (Mother says
"grandma's bedroom) with a beautiful mahogany sideboard & one old
dishes - a desk - a
