raining in the
afternoon and toward dark we took a walk to the shanty and up that
way. Herb telegraphed he'd be here
tonight but missed the 6(?) 7 train and didn't
get to Saugerties
till 9:28. We had crackers and
milk and staid up late visiting - cooler tonight - and lovely sunset Alice and I watched it from the rustic seat by the
rose bush. Nan picked two big roses!
Oct. 21 Sat.
A beautiful morning - with blue and golden clouds &c. but much
colder and rather - windy. NanAlice staid to look after the
invalids and Nan,
Anna, Herb and I took a twenty five mile ride - out thro'
Quarryville toward
Palenville where the wind was against us and there
were snow flakes! Then with the wind behind along a "ledge" road at
the foot of the mountains and very near. It was beautiful. We walked some and ate apples and chestnuts and
wintergreen berries along the way. It was delightful we went nearly to
Plattskill clove thro' West
Saugerties and down the hard turnpike road - (after
passing thro' woods & past stone trams) to
Saugerties - where the bought cheese &c. (we had
eaten crackers & cheese in the road)
