arrived at 11:30. Found crowds at the station and Gertrude (with Prof. Richards) to meet me. Mrs. Gleason was on the car and that's the way it was all day - meeting old acquaintances. We rode thro' the gaily decorated streets out to East 9th
& then went to a grocery and telephoned to Mrs. Barrett & Eva. I hadn't seen Eva in 13 years! & her voice didn't sound a bit natural. Went over to the house - on 10th St.
& found "Aunt Nellie
" & "Uncle Will
" very nicely situated. Had luncheon - after a little visit & then walked down to Drury's & saw Mrs. D
. Then to Barrett's & saw Kate
, Mrs. B.
and the children, and during the p.m. a great many more people I used to know, including Eva & Mrs Bayer, & her daughters, Ruth and Christine
, Jessie (McCarthy) and Florence
and her husband (Frank Allen) Had a nice visit with Eo. She looked very different at first, but as soon as she laughed, quite natural. We saw the parade, a very good one, on 3rd St. & I had a nice chat with Josh Heal, who was with our postmen - (now on a vacation) He hopes to come back in September. Everett Commeen
was there too. Kate
told me about Agnes O'Geran running an Inn at Lakewood &c.&c.
