Some callers came - Mr. & Mrs. Spaulding and Mrs Culver & Miss Culver (Mrs. S's

mother and sister). Mrs. S.
is a "bridge" friend - lives in Washington winters - knows the Breck-Perkins, Brewster's &c. &c. &c. The river was perfectly beautiful today - so quiet. And the boats and trains a constant delight - After supper we played solitaire and then bridge. Rain late! Oct. 20. Fri. Alice & Nan went to the shanty in mackin toshes and this morning it poured. the worst way - and it was good thing for we couldn't have gone to Mead's anyway as planned, on account of the sick people. We resigned ourselves to a good time, indoors, and had it - Chats, reading, photos, visits, &c. &c. Such a lovely house and a still lovelier family. When the doctor came in the late forenoon I borrowed rubbers, Mackintosh and umbrella and took quite a long walk - down on the stone dock (now deserted) and up thro the winding village streets - which are quite picturesque. (no Kodak weather or I showed have snapped some) In the afternoon I took another walk - to the P.O. with Nan. It stopped
