Nov. 13 Mon.
A lovely mild sunshiney
morning, so that I started off on dear Diana
- but a tire was flat, so I had to come back and take a car and
there were delays and when I got down town it was cloudy and at
noon it dismally rained and was London-dark. Later there was
sticky snow, and it got colder. I waded down to Dr.Scranton's to have him in- form me it
wasn't an ulcerated tooth I'd
been suffering, but an abcess - (comforting!) He made appoint- ments
for the 20th & 21st. Coming back in the 2:10 car a man got in who looked
like the man I've been looking for all my life. I knew him at once.
His face was fine and his head - so dear - when he took off his soft
hat to shake the snow. I hardly dared-look at him but we brushed
elbows when we got off. A calmly busy day down town - Char
goes to N.Y.
tomorrow. I read "Spenders" tonight.
Nov. 14-15 Tues & Wed
Cloudy & uneventful. Only Papa
began working for the Post-Express again - and got paid
up by Van Dusen. &c. They are tearing down the Orphan Asylum
fast. I am enjoying
JW's absence & reading and
sleeping had - to make up - Vanderbilt
sick with teeth.
