rug - but much
more beautiful. We were came into Malden that
prettiest way - with the mountain view (behind). We saw a snowstorm up
by twilight park. We had an unusually fine dinner and it did taste
good. Much airy persiflage between Herbert & Nan
&c. I "packed" and made my goodbye visits afterward and about 3:30
Alice &
Burton took me to the train (after
Cousin Carrietender goodbye) and we had but a moment before it
came. I went down to Kingston and waited an
hour there to get the fast train up. Saw the last of the lovely mountains
and the last twinkle of Obercliffe
lights as we flew by in the dusk, and then settled down in a comfy
double seat opposite two Sisters of Charity and a "loving
couple." There were also some theatrical looking girls - 4 - with a
man who got off at
Ravenna (for Albany) After that
I went into the dining car for dinner and had some strong coffee -
and my neighbors and "The garden of Allah" Kept me wide
enough awake till I got to Rochester at 12:02
a.m. Dear Mother was there - as
Papa went to
N.Y. this a.m. Waited for a car and I finally got to
bed about two - glad to.
