The sun set in splendor - I went to the hill top to see &c. final glories across the meadows - and then Diana took me home via the new West High School which is 1 1/2 miles from here (for Catherine

to walk) Tonight I wrote and listened to my music. Sept. 4 Mon. Labor day. A beautiful morning. I staid home & read &c. And had a good time. Papa went to the parade & Mother to hear the bands. After dinner it looked like rain, but I went off on Diana and it didn't. Went to Cro'nest (they weren't home) and then to the cemetery to Ned's grave and then out the Henrietta road. Tho't I'd stop and see the races a few minutes. Met Dr. Davis and his wife there and we had quite a jolly time. It was quite inter- esting. I hadn't seen a "real hoop race" before. Vesta Boy ap- pear to be the star of the day. Left early and rode over to South Park, where they were having children's sports, &c. in the athletic field. Got home half an hour before the Willards were due (& they were half an hour late) Charles, Mate & Frank - Had dinner (a
