a reasonably good dinner at the Inn (at 12) and
Miss Whillock met some more of her friends. Then
we walked down the "Same old lane" to the show. A lot of ponies were
trotting about. They had a contest this year. There were fewer drays
than usual - but much the same people. The carriages came rapidly &
fitted in later but we had no trouble getting to the rope almost
anywhere. The jumping was very poor as compared with some years - but
we enjoyed it just as much as tho' it was fine. Saw the
Wadsworths (a lot of them) Winthrop

start away by) from (as the train went at 4:40) but then
Bess
met a Mr. Weller (who was riding "Easy Money"!) and a
Mr. Bailley & talked quite a while. We walked down
the railroad & it seemed much farther
than it had looked. In sight of the station we heard a train coming &
to our astonishment when it passed, it was a passenger. It was
certainly 2 minutes ahead of time and moved
