and blindness is the most dreadful thing - almost that people have come to them. That is the hardest to bear bravely. We hustled home to dinner (Nan had ready) and ate quickly - starting off at once with "Janet"
Alice & Miss Sade Knight in the back seat and Nan & I in front. We took the "old" road to Waterford - the first part of which (over by "Pudding Lane") I'd been on before. It was beautiful, but had some big hills - The biggest - and most beautiful we came down (The picture is taken halfway down) Then we crossed Crooked River I've heard so much about and climbed more before we got down toward Pennesseewassee Lake (beautiful) and finally to Norway, the metropolis - saw a real street car! I treated to ice cream & we marketed and shopped (film, peppers, tin oven, comforter &c. &c. !!) and started back soon after 4:30. Came back by the "new road" - wider & not so hilly but sandier. It too was beautiful - but not quite up to Waterford Standard. "Miss Sade" was entertaining and we passed "? Neighborhood " & she told stories & treated to gumdrops & chocolates. Went thro' East Waterford and the old stage changing place. Reached home rather late - (around seven) and flew to get supper as there was a "dance" at
