shower down
Lakeville way early in the pm & we watched a
magnificent sunset (in a bank of cloud) over a perfectly still lake.
Chas.
& I were just going to row down for the mail
when Mate called us to supper (hasty
pudding &c.) and we had hardly finished when that Groveland
storm
began to strike us and twas really quite terrific
while it lasted. I stood on the piazza & watched it till it got too
wet then went in by the south door. One bolt struck a tree, not half a
mile down the road (we saw it next morning) but it was over reasonably
soon - & cooler - and I sat in the door to cool off while the
others lit up inside. Had a nice chat with Mr.
Willard out there. He is having neuralgia - just as I did -
& thinks it is in hot weather at the least breeze that he feels worst (as for example this afternoon)
The last thing before going to bed we ate up what remained of the
lemon sherbet & Trudy &
"big Charles"
continued their jokes on me! (begun
at supper.) It is always cool at night here, & we slept well.
Aug 6. Mon.
A little breezier but still
pretty warm.
Mate & Mr. W. & Chas. all
went up to Barrett's dock with us (Mr .H.
went too) & Mate took our
pictures just before the boat came in sight (The "Alice M" again - We had
the new "Ritz" Sat.)
