May 13 Sunday Nice early but turned into a rainy Sunday - very - some of it. Read Burgess' book "The little Sister of Destiny" (Miss Million) After dinner put on my old clothes and went to Cro'nest. Met Char, ditto, just coming down here. We went back to see "Claudio" a minute and he was dear as always. Then walked back in the pouring rain (so that we had to wipe Carlie off when he came in to call on Zenda") After Char went I started for Davis's but no car came so walked to Main St - good thing I had rubbers raincoat & umbrella, too. Found Chattie there & Helen came (in a carriage) soon after. They were expecting me to stay to supper, which I did & some time afterward. Helen goes to Georgian Bay Wednesday, my birthday. Miss Peck
came as I was leaving (9 p.m.) May 14 Mon Very busy. Read, played flinch &c. tonight. Growing warmer. Tuesday twas quite warm. May 15 Tues. Mother came down & we lunched at Sibley's. Went to Mrs. Weston's and shopped a little. Took quite a bicycle ride on the East side before supper and afterward I went to "Barbara Freitchie" with Edith & Miss Maize - the new Stock Co. at the National. 'Twas very good. May 16 Wed My birthday - and now that I've reached 40 I'm reconciled to getting old. It made me feel blue the other day tho' to see how pretty my cut-off hair was at 15. (It was really
