time for the "last car". Everyone said they had a good time.
Mama & I straightened
things & washed the dishes afterwards. I didn't go to bed till 1:30
nor to sleep till much later.
Dec. 13. Fri.
The thirteenth & Friday! A lovely day as to weather. I was used
up tho'.
Mama took my picture this noon -
looking out the parlor window (a sort of experiment) I was so ill I came
home in a car at 3:30 & went right to bed & when I got to
sleep didn't wake up till 7 - when I felt much better. The family were
astonished to see me appear - not knowing I was in the house. I sat
in the kitchen (where Mama was
fixing a Christmas box for the negroes and read Owen
Wister's Xmas story in Harper's
weekly to night. Wrote a "character" for Ned
to the Margaret Louisa.
Dec. 14 Sat.
A beautiful day & I feel much better, tho' I had no luck
shopping this noon. Tonight tho' I went to Gorton & McCabe's & bought Ned a snake candle stick (brass) & a
blue & white candle for it - also a vase for Mae. Stopped at
Bullard's for a jar of Apricot I am to send
Helen Davis.
