part way across the bridge & then rode way over to the "sunset
seats" with the big meadow-view. We "stacked" our wheels - or
Frank did - and sat there
talking an hour or so. It was delightful the soft pinky haze & the
greens all fading to grays & the sweet breeze well scented with
green smells. There were mosquitoes - but they
were surmountable. We started back in the dusk. Just the mysterious
time in the woods & country - and were charmed - as always with
the river's reflected lights & shades & so on. It was the
old story, but always lovlier. Went right down to Mary's & around to the dining room -
where Hamilton opened a bottle of
Orange phosphate, one of Lemon Sour and one of Root beer.
Nelliecame out & drank with us &
ate salted crackers - & so did "Don". We had a very gay time
& laughed and "mixed" the various drinks & finally came to
the front piazza, where "the girls" were & a couple of strolling
musicians played "Liberty Bell" & other
