I rode up & saw Ned sitting on the steps - so got off (for the first time) Put Diana under shelter & had a nice little half-hour's visit with Ned - with a snatch at Edith (who was getting dinner) & Ida & the Groom. They invited me very cordially to stay - but it almost stopped raining again - so I got away (about 12:30) and all the bother I had was wet asphalt - but of course I was mighty cautious. Didn't get off for n 15 or 20 minutes - which brought me to our side door & Papa appeared - cordial - with 2 of Claude's dear letters. Had time for a bath and adornment in my new dress before Mama came & we read them. After dinner I read 2 numbers of an Amazing Marriage (an amazing story - Mr. Meredith) & some Century & the Sun - with writing, cash accounts & lunch sandwiched in. Sleepy by bedtime! July 1. Monday Cloudy & Threatening. Quite a thun Pleasant - very. Helen Sayles appeared in the office about 4:20 this p.m. with Leon.
