12:05. Lura took the "next car" but
didn't pass us till we had passed the toll-gate & more
(4 miles or so.) We stopped in one shady spot for awhile. Walked
thro' Sophia St. & arrived home about
one-fifteen or twenty. Found Papa had
got 2 letters from Claude! And when Mama came we had a regular feast - for about an hour. 16
pages in one (written on shipboard) and 4 in the other! They are
fine & the dear boy is having
such a fine time & meeting such nice people! It did us good for a week. Had
a late dinner (I ate a monstrous one after my ride!) and I was ready
for church, but didn't go, as our clock proved to be wrong. Wrote a
long letter to Gertrude, Mary & Emma
"Mac" were up a few minutes. Read the N.Y.
papers, had lunch & retired early.
Jun. 17 Monday.
Lovely day. Took my wheel to Miner &
Fisk's & waited there for it this noon. Quite hot.
Went to Mrs. Gertrude Williams (on S.
Wash. St.) tonight, on my way home to find out about a
cottage. She talked & talked & talked to me! Mary
went to the Lake with "the
family" to supper. I went down & called on Ida & Harry. They
