Cloudy - Pepper & salt snow, too. Staid home most all day -
reading &c. by a pretty crackling wood fire. Went to church this p.m.

was there and came home with me but wouldn't stay. Went away
offended be- cause I wouldn't go home with her (oh! ye shades - and
they blame Mary!) To-night I've
been reading Kipling's "Brushwood Boy" - a
"plain tale" sort and good. The refrain still haunts me. "We must go
back with Policeman Day. Back from the City of Dreams".
Dec. 9. Mon.Mae was up to-day and asked us up to-
morrow night. Shopped a little. Sewed tonight on pillows - or
cushions for window seat.

Pleasant. Went shopping again. Tonight
Claude & I went to Stull's (after I had seated parlors
& my room after sweeping) and found Charlie Case
there. John had "Barrack
Room Ballads" & we read some. The one about
Tomlinson and "It's" "Tommy" this and "Tommy" that
and "Tommy" "mind yer eye" But it's "make way there for Adkins".
When the band begins to play. We talked house to - quite extensively - but
mostly after Charlie Case left. Then had
