balcony & found me with hair flying. It didn't take long to fix it & we had a jolly supper together - telling about the picnic. Lonesome Tom went for a smoke in the slat hammock (said to be comfortable!) but followed us over to the cedar store & bought us dainty little paddles - a pair for me first - Ned bought Ralph a full grown butternut one - very pretty indeed. We started for the dock, but it began to rain, so we waited half an hour before going home - Ned rowed & Tom paddled beside us in the canoe - which drifted badly - I wore "Bella

's" mackintosh again. It was another lonesome - desolate - weird night on the water. At Juniper Island we found the girls' boat, which Mr. S. took home. After we had been up for letters &c. the wind was rising & he had quite a time, as we found out later - Ned & I arrived at camp to find all abed but "Uncle" & we were glad to crawl in between the blankets. July 30 Tuesday. The wind blew and dashes of rain fell & the night grew wild before I got to sleep - A lovely, breezy - "puffy cloud" morning dawned - the lake bright blue
