pedro Club was at Mary's. I got there first - then
Mr. Lee. Played with Charlie Griswold
& made a very good score at first - out N.G.
after - wards. Only played 7 games. Miss Osborn
substituted. Mr. Cromley has taken Jack Ballagh's place. I enjoyed myself
very much. The prizes were lovely - a palm - a pack of cards in seal
leather case - a gift frame & a funny negro pen-wiper - Mrs.
Severance
& Miss Ettes got the first & Miss
French & Mr. Bristol
the others. We had supper at two tables - with dinner-cards &
quotations. I sat between Mr. McLoughlin &
Mr. Cromley, with Severance, & Griswold
& Misses. French, Laura
Collings & Emma Mac
the others. We had a very jolly time. Mr.S.
insisted that I picked out his verse. About "his hair ain't cut, but
his eye teeth is!" Afterward they danced - I chatted with Mr.
Drake & Miss Ettes
& was persuaded to dance a square dance with Warren Fisk - Mr.
Severance called off & I'm still in doubt whether it
was Lancers or
Prairie Queen. We went home just before one (!) W. Fisk escorted me - I wore my black
dress with green velvet yoke & sleeve caps & pink carnations.
Jan. 24 FridayMary's coffee kept me awake all night
but I rested. Was later this morning. J.G.
is back from Albany (he went Monday morning.)
