attempt with the Kodak at the canal there just in time to wash & cool off before a one o'clock dinner (which cured F's headache.) Mr. & Mrs. King & Mr. & Mrs. "Whiskers" (all the name we knew) - all bicyclists ate with us - a very good dinner of roast pork numerous vegetables - alleged coffee & "apple 'er cus'tard pie" & grapes. The talk was "bicycle" of course & we all got acquainted. The K's are very nice. The waitress was a "corker!" and the "parlor" filled with family crayon portraits - a great place! We discussed taking a canal boat back (just for the experience) but finally gave it up - tho' Mr. King announced "3 miles ahoy." We told us 'the other way home" - coming in Lyell Ave. thro' Gates - & we took it. Started off about two. Mary & I ahead & went a couple of miles - to the top of a Sandy hill - where we rested till the other 4 appeared - it looked cloudy, like rain, but soon cleared up bright again and we went on another 3 miles or so (one turn to the right and another to the left) till we got to a lovely hilltop covered with golden rod - here we rested a long time. I took Ned's phiz. & she mine (against the sun, the latter, I imagine). We staid there
