We landed on a barren rock & sought water lilies & frogs &c. while our men explored for the River Julien. At last it was found & we were invited to "follow the road" while the men rowed the boats around & shot the rapids. We did follow the road - a most beautiful one - bright yellow earth - beautiful green shrubs & trees - coredroy bridges & lovely rocks - I can only regret here once more - that my camera disappointed me again here and my pictures of this lovely spot were all more or less bad. I tried to take "our women" on a lovely bridge, spanning a lovely stream, with the rapids showing beneath. Had a nice little chat with Mrs. Myers, who turns out to be Mrs. Joe Gilmore's sister. Mary & I followed the road on, while the others watched for the boats - & found an open rocky arena & beyond a lovely house of slab, but bright with flowers. We enquired of the "lady" about the portage & the lake - White Lake - which we had the satisfaction of seeing beyond & behind the house. Then we followed the beautiful river back to the bridge & found that the men judged the boats too big for portage - & had decided to picnic in the cove where they had brought them.
