Sat 27 th
Mary took hers & we went rowing with Tom in the rain - much to his delight & ad- miration. He thinks "Yankee girls" are stars in respect to doing things - & before we left we convinced him that they could do anything - and would, if occasion required. He kept calling Mary "Mrs. 'Awkins" & said he should introduce her so to friends who were to arrive in the p.m. We rowed all over the channel, trolled & at my suggestion went to camp for my mackintosh & dry things for Ned. It was a wet camp. Mrs. Rose & the boys in rubber blankets welcomed us warmly. Mrs. R. was getting dinner for the Hughes (Mr. & Mrs.) whom they expected - to camp - this wet afternoon. We got back in time to make a toilet before dinner - which waited an hour for the boat. The boat came in the midst of it and the girls & Mrs. S's friend Mr. Stanberry. Mr. D. Sr. & Ernest left at the same time. Charlotte was used up & went right to bed. The rest of us had dinner to- gether & discussed our adventures. Ned started for home soon after dinner, but wouldn't let me go yet. Said she would
