About 5 or after I went down to Mary's. Mr. Ballagh & another & "the girls" were out on the front steps and Lura up in Mary's room - where I staid half an hour & then walked to the car with Lura & up around that way. Sat by the window a little while - watered the seeds & then Ed rushed in - almost beside himself - to tell us Nina was dead! Oh! the hopelessness of that moment. Poor boy. I drank a glass of milk and rushed over to Edna, Mama following later. She sat looking at Nina's body - with John - and she did look beautiful then! I staid with them & did what I could. Am thankful to say Fred Best came to help comfort Ed. It was terrible. Came home about 10 to get some things to stay all night, and then Mama went home & we went to bed. Ted, the baby & I in the front room. Ed, Fred & John in the side. Poor little John he was afraid to close his eyes for fear he'd die. "There was so much deadness around."
