Oct. 16. Wed.
More or less rain but I rode Diana
just the same! Got Mary's pictures
(!) & stopped at the house with them tonight, but she wasn't
home. Chatted with her mother a few minutes & then rode home in
the rain. Mama & I (with all
the Behns, Miss Seeley,
the
Turpins &c.) went at 7 o'clock over to
Salem church on Franklin St. to see
Minnie Schmidt (the Behn's former nurse girl & servant) married to
Chas. Schmidt. Mrs.
B. was very funny as she marshalled us to seats &
"arranged" things. The ceremony was in German. There were 3
bridesmaids & 3 groomsmen & Minnie
looked very pretty - both in face & hair & dress & general
get-up. The groom is as dark as she is light. A shower of rice
followed them out of the church door. It was almost
raining, but not quite I took the car right home - rather expecting
Frederica up - but she didn't come.
After Mama got home from church I
got on Diana & rode thro' the mud down
to Mary's. She wasn't home, but
Frank Davis was there & Nellie
