July 10. Wed. A beautiful day. Martha & Gilmore kept office this p.m. & let me go to the Matinee - "Girofle-Girofla" & very well sung for comic opera & summer. Villa Knox &c. I find I'm getting rather tired of that tho', I must say. Tonight Mary & I rode for the Park. It was soon afterward that Frank Davis & Mr. Gould found us on a bench & we all rode over to the sunset seat. It was cool - very - but so gorgeous! the tints & cloud pictures & the sweet air! We sat there an hour I should think - & talked over Vacations & things. Then rode down & at the top of Plymouth Ave. hill was a very pretty G.A.R. Ladies lawn party! The "Crowd" (MacArthur's &c.) beckoned us in, & tho' the boys tried to pur- suade us elsewhere, we went, we did. The girls danced & we drank lemonade & visited &c. Jack Ballagh was there too - but not with "the crowd". Mary & I rode (& the rest walked) down about 10:30 & we were invited to Mary's with Cap of pop-corn. I didn't go - came home quite tired out.
