Feb. 12. Wed. To-day was Charlotte Cooke's funeral - a very sad death & a short tragic married life. J.G. sent 1000 violets and J.W. a wreath from N.Y. ($20!) Everyone feels very badly about it. I went to the dentist's this noon & suffered an hour & then had lunch at Sibley's. Today is Lincoln's birthday & a holiday. We had flags flying on the building. Had a call from Ned this noon & from Edith - very forlorn - later. Read tonight. Feb. 13. Thurs. Stormy - drizzly & horrid - was late to my appointment with Dr. S. because J.G. kept me to write his speech for tonight so had to lunch first. Chased around after Ned & finally found her at her room. She got ready & we went up to "Sib's" for luncheon. Geo. Humphrey came and talked to us. Then I had another hour with that dentist man & got back to the office to find I'd had calls from Ned Mary & Edith. Saw Maryat 5 too & we drabbled about in the rain together awhile. Met Ned on Fitzhugh St. & We 3 went to the theatre later - where I was simply delighted with Julia Neilson. She's a regular "Trilby" in looks - gorgeous - expresses it best.
