good shape, but found the wind had turned & was against us still. Didn't notice it much till we passed the 2-mile part, however. At the 2-mile seat the car with "the rest" passed us, and we saw two "scorchers" fall off. One broke his wheel & had to put it on a car & take it back. Kate had a good deal of trouble with a "floppy" dress - against the wind - and all of us (but K.) had to get off coming up the Deaf mute hill. Probably St. Paul St. above Driving Park Ave. near the Western New York Institution for Deaf Mutes, now Rochester School for the Deaf

I was all tired out. Mary & I left "the crowd" at Driving Park Ave & walked across the bridge - Got some Vichy up on Lake Ave. Rode to Vincent St. & walked up thro' Frank & Sophia Sts. Then rode the home stretch - it was towards 4 when I arrived. A bath & then a doze till "plumb 6" when I dressed & ate glass after glass of bread & milk. Read the Century a little & the N.Y. papers, went to bed at 10. June 24. Monday. Nice day. Rained a little & looked like it more. Very very busy & kept Will
& Martha busy too. Staid till nearly 6
