next. A brilliantly dressed pit & balcony. An enthusiastic & musical gallery. Gay boxes with "visiting" "gentlemen an immense orchestra led by Mr. Damrosch - the nice looking young one. A big Chorus - brewers & fair curled young men & uncoquettish ladies. Good costuming - lots of German eagle. Elsa a lovely voice and not bad looking Lohengrin (der Ritter!) stunning in armour and very well, anyway - Ortrud all stride & scowl - Telramund tore his hair & pranced. The Herald the most stolid little(!) man - like a wood image - The king good enough - all music - mad & nothing else - Scenery good & quite a spectacular grouping - but I did enjoy the audience too - "Waltjen" & weife - "Schmidt" & frau &c. &c. - all beaming. We were a long time getting out - Frank Davis met us & we just got the 12 o'clock car at the corner. Feb. 25 Tues. Decided to go to N.Y. tomorrow night. Cold clear nice day. Gordon goes tonight & Ed. Nolan yesterday. Sloan (& Miss Harris) delighted with their house - a little chat with Ned - a longer with Mary - at noon (about the "party") and at night fussing to get ready for our journey. Grace Epes invites me there - to Brooklyn.
