got nicely cooled off and had a cozy dinner together & a visit and a pleasant evening over Alice's photo- graphs which are fine and so ap- propriately inscribed with quotations &c. Edith and Wiltsie both arrived after Mama & I had come up stairs to our pleasant r.w. room with the lovely view. May 30. Thursday Decoration day - and warm. Did not get up very early. Met Edith & Wiltsie who is very nice & funny. Joked about being delayed dying his hair &c. Ali Edith went off to a base ball game with "Phillip" in the course of the forenoon & Wiltsie had to go to the office a little while. About 10:30 or so Hattie

, Mama & I started on the trolley (the other side of the R.R.) thro' West Newton &c. to Waltham - where my watch was made - in a picturesque factory on the river bank. Hattie
left us there and we were just in time for the 11:40 to Concord which was not a very long ride - we passed Walden Pond (Lake Walden they call it) where Thoreau lived, on the way. Arrived at a funny little
