some, however, and wrote some - and "bothered" Mama. She insisted on going to meet Gertrude - at 8:20 - alone. I don't like to have her but I was used up! It stormed terribly about 6:30. Torrents of rain & terrible lightning & thunder - every particle of my old nervousness seems to be gone, however - and I was only glad we didn't start for 1000 Islands today as some of the MacArthurs wanted to. I also hoped our "dear Canadians" weren't suffering. Mama came back about 9:30 p.m., saying train was delayed by a washout and wd. be several hours late. She took "Alice in Wonderland" & went back to the station to wait. The lights were all out. I went to the car with her. Then read & dozed on the divan till the 12 o'clock car - which brought Mama & Trudy. They had a small lunch later. Aug 18 Sunday Pleasant day. Up rather late & made boquets (sunflowers, sweet pea &c.) & talked to Ray Caring before breakfast. Had eaten my oatmeal & taken one sip of coffee when the bell rang (about 9:30) and there stood Tommy Struthers - all in a new blue suit & Canadian collar & new yellow shoes & soft felt hat in hand - "Good morning, Leeboards" was his greeting "Now you didn't expect to see me, did you?". I brought him in & we had a nice visit. Sisters sent regards. Bought
