some apples and got home awfully late. Dec. 11. Wed. Still more shopping - Everybody is shopping and Christmas is booming. Read nearly all the evening. Dec. 12. Thurs. Wintry. Mary was up to see what had become of me - also Ned. She will probably go to New York again Monday - for a week. I ordered Salad & whipped cream &c.&c. and hustled tables and dishes & received compliments from Mr. & Mrs. Behn &c.&c. but was almost used up - & nervous - by night when the pedro Club came. The MacArthur's first. Then Mr. Lee then Jack Ballagh & the rest together & almost our rooms are very nicely arranged for the game. I played with Mr. Severance & we played 9 games. He was real funny & we had a good time but not a particularly high score (229) Mr. Bristol & Laura Collings beat everyone very badly (278). They were delighted with their prizes (pen holder & scissors) as were the boobies also - Mr. Ballagh & Lizzie Collings (131!) We had chocolate with our salad &c. & got thro' in ample
