After we went to bed "Tom" saluted us with corks & things over the top of the partitions - which do not meet the ceiling. Our bed was very soft and we slept pretty well, but were reluctant to start out for fish with "Tom" - as he invited us July 27 Saturday to - at 4:20 this morning. It was pleasant enough then - but pouring rain when we got up - about eight - "Tom" (we never called him that but it's more convenient than to write "Mr. Struthers, & seems to suit him better) had great stories to tell at breakfast - of a giant lunge hooked & almost landed - then lost! It was really quite tragic. Mr. Dymond, Sr. entertained us - & "Ernest" sat by & occasionally assented & Mrs. D.
talked her soft way. I am quite in love with her & I think her relations are too. After breakfast we all went out on the piazza Mr. D., Sr. wrote, "Ernest" read my Harpers, "Tom" cleaned his bicycle, Mary sewed a button on her coat &c. I took 2 pictures of them, so occupied. Finally we got restless, & I borrowed "Bella's"
Mackintosh, which her brother got her in London last summer & (See page 146.)
