July 17. Wed.
A pleasant day - tho' very warm. Got up rather early and got ready
for the picnic which started from the Erie at 9:25. Mama
& I walked down & found Edith at the station Also the band (54th
Reg't) and numerous people. We sat behind the
Bradstreets & in front of
Mrs. Arrick
& it was cool & pleasant enough - & the band played.
It seemed hot, tho', when we got off at
Long Point
- & we didn't do much but sit under
trees (& take pictures) till dinner time. The tub race & swimming
races were quite good - & the little pier crowded with
spectators. Saw Hamilton win the
swimming race - Ernest Millard the Swimming
under water & young Strowbridge the Tub race.
Ernest Millard introduced me to his
friend "Mr. Jones" & dinner was announced just as Miss
Gaylord was telling me a long story. She almost ran to
dinner with the children. We sat by the Millards
&c
1895.
