July 26. Tuesday Had a good long night sleep. Nothing to hurry us up this morning - and a nice long day on deck with the Foster's & others. They are good fun, we played cards, read ("Anne") &c. &c. After lunch went down in Mrs. Morrow's stateroom and Laura manicured our nails. We like that crowd ok. about 3 we got to Mackinac. Tho't it was going to rain, but it didn't. Walked up to the fine old fort with them and stopped twice on the stairs for pictures. It is all old and white washed. Prowled around guard houses, parade grounds, officers quarters, etc. etc. Finally came but a path thro' the woods (the one "Anne" used to take, I'm sure) and wandered down thro' the arbor vitae and funny little tomns to the main street again - where we did lots of shopping. Mrs. Morrow and I managed to disconnect ourselves from the others and bought a birthday cake &c. for Mrs. Foster's cele- bration next Thursday (her 37th). Mr. F.

treated us to ice cream &c. &c. The Buck girls took a driver & found it delightful. We left at 5:30 - and it looked more and more like rain as we got out of the straits into the open lake. We watched the fading
