Oct. 13. Thurs. Still cloudy. We're had about a week of it now. It cleared off cold, however, at sunset in time for the big Republican parade at 8:30. Mother and I went down to the Cong. church corner to see it. (18 companies) Power's tower was beautifully illuminated and a search light on it. When we got home we played Flinch. Oct. 14. Fri. J.W. is very much broken up today. He & Mrs. Cutler went out to the country club in the auto. with the Averell's last night and just as they sat down to dinner Mr. A.
had an apoplectic stroke and died at 9:20! J.W. came back in the ambulance with him &c. &c. It was all very trying and very awful & he is wreck. We wired J.G. Lunched at Sibley's today and met Miss Crichton. Jollied her about her box party. Tonight went to see Gillette in "The Admirable Crichton" with Laura & Lura (I took Lura) I enjoyed it very much but it seemed as tho' I had seen it before, Claude described it so accurately when he saw it in NY. The Davises - a row of them, including Kate - were there. Oct. 15. Sat. Lovely at last! Hazy and Octobery. At 5 I rode out to call on the Roger's but they weren't in. Then went out to the Culver road via University Ave.
