Oct. 23 Sun Cold and snowflakes now and then but fine - with big thick clouds that come apart here and there and show the blue of Heaven between and let down streaks of joyful sunshine. About 11 I started for a long walk and it was long - two hours steady. Down the line of the Sophia cars - past the fortress of the Industrial School (there is many a picturesque spot in Rochester) and down Emerson St. and Dewey Ave. where I'd never been before - across Driving Park Ave. and on and on. It began to look like Boston suburbs - rolling and brilliant and full of color. Overtook Mrs. Gray formerly of Hubbell Park who walked a few blocks with me and told me about the cold winds of winter down there. Turned thro' Seneca Parkway (with barely a house on it) to Lake Ave. and on across thro' Seneca Park and up the Maplewood Ave. bicycle path to Maplewood and some lovely glimpses of the Falls and the Gorges and the path under the cliffs - and so lots of boys, way down below, nutting. Walked across the bridge and watched and listened to the Falls' magnificence and finally
