was ever in. We had to "deposit" our tickets and get a berth for
tomorrow night &c. and then we took a
Pa. R.R. "hansom" (Mother's first) and were
driven to Green's Hotel at 8th & Chestnut
St.
and shown to A15 on the first floor, by a coon hall boy. It was
quite comfortable and near the fire escape and only one floor up -
so was ok. We spent our short evening in the really excellent restaurant
(all mirrors and palms) at dinner. Entertained by two friendly
angora cats - a maltese ("Mike") with a crumpled ear and a pink and
white beauty. We slept the sleep of the weary

Another cool, bright lovely sunny morning. After a good breakfast
(mine
omelette) at Green's Restaurant
we started down Chesnut Street to dear old
Independence Hall and sat in the square and took
its picture, but I had my magnifying finder and held it by that which made
a very
crooked result. We saw the old Congress Hall, too,
where Washington was inaugurated and went
