After a while Gurdon showed up (He'd been delayed in various ways - (one lack of carfare) and after a delicious lunch we went to the Hollis St. Theatre, Nan and I stopping on the way to inspect Hotel Touraine - with its delightful library and all its gorgeousness. The play was Nat Goodwins I conception of "Midsummer Nights' Dream" - a most splendiferous - production - Electries and Costumes - Fairies in the air - Greek beauties and athletes - Illuminated mushrooms and flowers - Puck flying about. An ass's head that on Bottom (Goodwin) that winked and laughed and twiddled its ears &c.&c. Really a most surprising and quite delightful production. We all enjoyed in. We dashed from the theatre (an old, but pretty one) to the Common and so to the bowels of the Earth again and took our home car there - It was full of matinee ladies &c. who talked rather entertainingly about nothing at all. We reached home (in the cold moonlight) before six and soon had a nice supper devoured. Gurdon went to
