When we finished the gallery we inquired our way (past
Gen. Grant's old headquarters) to the "Zoo"
car out Connecticut Ave. and had a long ride to the
heights of Chevy Chase (or near it) and the
National Park
where we walked down stairs and up hills and over bridges and saw
some lovely bears catching peanuts and climbing trees (I took their
pictures under difficulty!) And some entrancing leopards like
Zo & Zen and a noble tiger who insisted
on posing - but not in the sun - also some lions. We were enjoying
the monkey house (also snakes! and alligators (a baby on it's
mother's back) when the time came to close it - so afterward
confined ourselves to wolves, prairie dogs, camels, buffaloes (a picture!)
yaks &c. It really is a fineZoo. The best I've seen I think - certainly with the
most beautiful surroundings of hill and dale. We came out another
way "feeling our way" again. Took a crowded Chevy
Chase car a little way and then another car. Along
Rock Creek bridge and to "U" St. (I
think).
