on 4 1/2 Street, just below the Court House where Guiteau was tried & sentenced. He drove us thro' the Mall and had some remarks to make about every building and statue in it. Then to the Monument where I took his picture (with Mother, in state on her Wedding Day) and he reminisced about some people from South Africa who also took his picture. Then past theWhite house stables, the Corcoran Gallery, the "Army, Navy & State Departments" ("Secretaries - Root - Long and Hay - 'jes' the way it grows - firs' the root - Then it grows long, then it's hay " -!) up the White House drive and out the other way past the Lafayette Statue. Mark Hanna's famous old Mansion (and the new Lafayette Theatre on the site of the Seward House) Past Dolly Madison's house (now the "Cosmo' Club"!) and Secretary Hay's, Depew's, Blanie's and Dewey's gift house. Mrs. Hancock's. Mrs. Grant's the McLean house (Senator Depew got his bride right out-a that there res'dence!) the Thomas Nelson Page house ("He ma'ied
