Well a good deal has happened but not much of great importance – since August 11th Edith went on her vacation to Pleasant Point - all alone - and while she was gone, Mary had the long dreaded operation and was home 3 weeks – till after Labor Day – but quite well again now – & better. Meantime, Mrs. Davis was very very sick. not expected to live from day to day. The after– noon Kate came home (Helen & Mrs. Armstrong went to meet her) they thought she was dying, but almost by a miracle – it seemed she began to rally – but doesn’t get well very fast. She still only sits up a couple of hours a day. Gertrude came and staid two weeks with me just before school began and we had a real nice visit – didn’t do much but she is a sweet girl. Went down to Edith's and to Mary’s & over to Davis’s one night. The last few half–holidays we had we girls took little trips together – Edith, Mary, Lura & I to Manitou, to Glen Haven and up the beautiful bay, one beautiful afternoon and across to Charlotte on the “JD Scott” and supper at the “Vienna Café” and a beautiful evening by the water, with the band playing. One afternoon I went up the canal with Mary – the first
