The romantic little iron balconies stuck out so perilously over the street - how lovely - how fascinating they were - and I've forgotten the "Childrens Home" and the refuge for "Friendless girls" - and the rattlng stages galloping thro' the Arch
and rattling down South 5th Avenue to no one knows where. The west side brought me to the region of high stoops again - of barking diminutive [illegible] on upper steps - of white capped maids & well appointed coupes standing in front of clean swept stone steps - and of baby carriages & nursery maids! I couldn't leave it hurriedly & I didn't walk any faster past the brass rails on the N.E.V. and the strollers because it had
