I read "The Tragic Muse" a long time. I'm quite
interested in it now & charm- ed with Nick Dormer, whom I
think is quite fascinating. I like his part of the Story better
than Miriam & Peter's - so far, but am
not through the first volume.
W.H.O. told me some things about
J.G. & J.W. & Ann &
"Gilly" &c. &c. I wrote later.
Will as good as told me he wasn't
engaged to
Miss R. - tho'
that's no sign he wouldn't like to be.
Aug 20. Sunday
A nice bright cool day. Got up at 8:30 and took a bath and went to
church with Mama
to hear Dr. Robinson. Saw Mrs. R
and Allen also
Charella, Frank, Edward &
Mr. Tappan were also there
& invited me up to dinner with them - but I didn't go. Howard & Louise
Bradstreet
start for the World's Fair
tomorrow. I read "The Tragic Muse" most all day - on the
front piazza before dinner & in the hammock afterwards. After
sun down (or about then) Ned &
Edith came. Ned brought me a lovely photograph of a crayoned
head of Paderewski - (from Buffalo) We
visited an hour or so and the girls were sweet to me and I went down
to the car with them. Tea at 9:45.
